How to tell if it is gynecomastia
In the initial phase, gynecomastia presents with increased sensitivity under the nipple and the appearance of painful lumps. Subsequently, a further turgor appears, due to the increase in both adipose and glandular tissue.
There are several causes behind the onset of this pathology, for example genetic, hormonal, pharmacological or related to other diseases. Generally speaking, the main cause is to be found in an alteration of the hormonal balance, with consequent imbalance of testosterone and estrogen in the metabolism.
Depending on the characteristics, gynecomastia can be classified as:
True gynecomastia
when the increase in volume is caused by an increase in glandular tissue
False gynecomastia
when the adipose tissue in the breast area increases
Mixed gynecomastia
this type is caused by a mixture of the increase in fat and the glandular component
The doctor diagnoses gynecomastia through palpation, and an ultrasound is able to clarify any doubts about the origin of the swelling.
Gynecomastia surgery
True gynecomastia regresses only in pubertal age, then for the correction it is necessary to intervene surgically. In cases of false gynecomastia, on the other hand, a food program designed specifically for the reduction of body fat and for muscle toning can be an effective remedy (in the most accentuated situations it is possible to resort to liposuction).
The gynecomastia operation is performed under local anesthesia and consists in the removal of the glandular tissue and in the remodeling of the adipose one with lipoaspiration. Depending on the need, the scars can be only periareolar, periareolar and vertical or periareolar, vertical and horizontal.
Regarding the post-surgery of gynecomastia, the patient obtains definitive and satisfactory results, and the sutures must not be removed as they are resorbable.
