Correction of breast asymmetry
Correction of breast asymmetry
Most women have asymmetrical breasts, albeit to a minimal extent. The asymmetry of the breasts is an alteration in the volume and shape of a breast: the anomalies can be more or less slight, up to present themselves as serious.
It is a defect that can cause severe psychological distress in patients, but it is possible to operate on the asymmetrical breast to correct the problem.
Asymmetric breast: the solutions
Surgeons know how to recommend the best remedy to correct breast asymmetry: the technique varies according to the shape of the breasts. In particular, it is possible to proceed with lipofilling or with the insertion of prostheses.
Breast asymmetry: lipofilling intervention
Fat grafts are an alternative to implants: fat is taken with a syringe from areas of the body such as the thighs, buttocks and abdomen, treated and purified of debris, and reinserted with a syringe into the smaller breast.
The engraftment depends on the quality of the fat: fat contains stem cells that have great replicative capacity. Based on the quantity of these multipotent cells and their distribution when they are inserted, the effectiveness of engraftment is evaluated, which is variable. Generalmente, sono necessarie più operazioni per raggiungere il volume desiderato: si tratta di piccole operazioni eseguite in anestesia locale.
Choosing lipofilling as a remedy for breast asymmetry has the great advantage of guaranteeing a natural result: the treated breast adapts to the patient’s weight loss, fattening and ageing, just like the contralateral breast does and instead, the prosthesis does not.
Asymmetric breast: operation with breast prosthesis
Asymmetrical breasts can be corrected by inserting a breast prosthesis, preferring anatomically shaped silicone to give a more natural appearance to the patient’s chest.
Since it is not uncommon for breast asymmetry to be caused by the combination of different aesthetic imperfections that coexist onone or both breasts but with different degrees, the surgeon often finds himself having to use several medical techniques at the same time. This is the case, for example, of a pair of breasts where one has an excessive volume and evident ptosis, while the other is much smaller and tubular.
The correction of asymmetrical breasts is certainly one of the most complex interventions among those of breast surgery.
